Evan Newman / Director

Newman is an American-born filmmaker whose diverse works have probed voices from social fringes and cultural movements around the world, often aiming to break through traditional forms of nonfiction storytelling with novel and risk-taking cinematic approaches in order to represent subjective and hidden human experiences.

His award-winning directorial debut The Believers (2024), a first-of-its-kind hyper-visual exploration of a Thai occult ritual on one sacred day, played Montclair (Jury Award Winner), Austin Film Festival (Jury Nominee), and Dances with Films.

In 2016 he led as show-runner for the digital docu-series Insights, which reached half a billion viewers online, and then served as editor on the Tribeca premiere Game Change Game (2022) a feature film about athlete activism during BLM, acquired by Starz Cinema.

His short form and defiantly digital-first works have garnered recognitions including three Emmy Awards, over a dozen silver Tellys, and a Runner Up Honoree for Best Docuseries at the Webbys.

Also an editor and visual artist trusted by brands and musical artists, he has served video projects for David Bowie, Kings of Leon, Mariah Carey, Rolling Stone Magazine, Mercedes Benz, LG Electronics, L'oreal, often in collaboration with top production companies and design firms. In 2023, he created the definitive video history about the "art revolution of Cryptopunks" in conjunction with a Print book by Zak Group (ICONS), Phaidon Press, and YugaLabs.

His works have been featured in the New York Times, Deadline, the Hollywood Reporter, IndieWire, among other publications.

Evan operates his directorial and independent projects under Perceptual Studio in New York, and post production projects with Good Company Pictures (NY/LA).
